Today is World Alzheimer's Day

Celebrating 5 years of House of Memories...

Today on World Alzheimer's Day we pay tribute to the House of Memories dementia awareness programme, an initiative led by National Museums Liverpool which celebrated its 5th anniversary last week.

World Alzheimer's Day is a day when organisations across the globe focus their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia.  Dementia is a general term to describe a set of symptoms caused by diseases of the brain.  Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia.

At FPC the House of Memories programme is close to our hearts and we know many of you have family and friends affected by the disease. Partner of FPC, Mark Ralphs attended the anniversary event last week to pledge our continued support and to find out more from Carol Rogers, the inspiration and driving force behind the initiative, about their plans for the next five years.

Carol Rogers, Executive Director, Education and Visitors at National Museums Liverpool said: "We're delighted to have celebrated the fifth birthday of our House of Memories dementia awareness programme last week.  Over 11,500 participants have taken part in the programme since it began in 2012 which is a fantastic achievement.

We're incredibly grateful to FPC's support for the family and friends workshops and our memory suitcase programme over the years, and we're looking forward to working together in the future."

We will be continuing to sponsor the interactive workshops that House of Memories offers to family carers free of charge and the memory suitcases that can be booked by groups who have attended House of Memories dementia awareness training.   Dates are available for the workshops from now through to March 2018.

The My House of Memories app can also be downloaded from the site, with a personalised memories feature launching in the new year.  Memory walks (dementia-friendly guided visits) are also organised at the Museum of Liverpool, plus a range of activities for young or old.
