Mark Ralphs

Founding Partner

I have a natural curiosity and interest in people. Throughout my career I have been fortunate to connect with truly inspirational clients and professional colleagues, all leaders in their fields.

One of the most enjoyable parts of my job was spending time with clients and colleagues, sharing the knowledge and experience that I have built up over the years and learning from them.

I’ve always had a keen interest in markets, the challenges of managing risk and the psychology and behaviour of the investor. When I founded FPC I focused on building a solid investment proposition that continues to support our clients today. We have certainly been tested over the years but we have also delivered, as our client stories show.

Mark founded FPC in 1982, establishing the firm as one of the first fee-based independent financial planning practices in the UK.

Introducing a pioneering, fresh financial planning led approach, he developed the business through referrals within the North West business community initially.

In addition to having an MBA from Liverpool Business School, where he focused on Behavioural Economics, he was a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments and a Member of the Society of Trust & Estate practitioners (TEP).

Mark sits on FPC’s investment committee and has dedicated much of his professional career to ensuring that the firm’s clients follow a sound evidence based investment strategy and “win by not losing”.

He works closely with the firm’s Non-Executive Chairman, Harry Baines, independent economist, Peter Stanyer and Investment Director, Mike Lea to ensure ongoing due diligence and governance of the investment process.

Mark now takes an active role in supporting the professional and personal development of FPC’s advisory and planning teams, sharing his experiences and network of professional contacts built up over many years in the profession.

Out of work, Mark loves to cook and enjoys a decent glass of wine (or two). Mark and his wife love to travel and enjoy driving around Europe (when possible), tasting local delicacies.  He’s a father of two gorgeous grown up daughters and a proud grandad, so visiting his granddaughters is always a treat.
